Temporary / Volunteer Licensure
- Registered Dentists
- Sudan Medical Council Regulations mandates that registered dentists with licensure (B.D.S., D.D.S, D.M.D.) in his or her home country may apply to perform volunteer dentistry with either a local Sudanese NGO or the Faculty of Dental Sciences at a University. Temporary licenses must be requested at least 2 months prior to the planned arrival in Sudan in order to work out visa and accommodation issues. In addition, the volunteer must submit a copy or letter from his or her National Dental Association proving current licensure in his or her home country. Lastly, the volunteer must also submit a recent copy from an accredited laboratory of either immunization or test-results for Hepatitis B and HIV.
- Dental Students
- Current dental students in their clinical years of training of their education may apply to perform volunteer dentistry with NGOs but must submit a letter of registration and proof of enrollment in the clinical years of his or her dental school. In most cases, the dental school will allow dental students to perform clinical care under the supervision of a dentist, but this must be worked out directly with the dental school. Dental students are welcome to volunteer with any of the country's organizations, but must contact the individual dental schools. (See Contact / Miscellaneous Information). The SADS ( Sudanes Association of Dental Students) is a joint Association between all these dental schools. It organizes the next IADS Congress in August of each year, in which foreign dental students may co-volunteer.
