DentalVolunteer was started in November, 2005 by an American dental student and volunteer who realized the need for a non-profit portal that connects dental professionals with volunteering opportunities. The need for global oral health care has skyrocketed as the international community has now accepted the integral part of oral health care with systemic health. The site aims to allow general dentists, specialty dentists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, plastic surgeons, dental assistants, dental hygenists and even other professionals to provide volunteer oral health care anywhere in the world. Several national dental organizations realized that this project required a drastic amount of resources and thus they chose not to undertake this project; so the opportunity to unite dental volunteers globally remained. It was clear that an independent, 3rd party, non-partisan, non-governmental organization (NGO) unaffiliated with any country or entity needed to be formed to promote dental volunteering in a rapidly globalizing world. In April, 2006, DentalVolunteer started operating as a HealthCare Volunteer non-profit subsidiary.
DentalVolunteer was started with a vision of becoming the de-facto web site for dental volunteers any where in the world. We provide an avenue for any dental volunteer to find an appropriate dental volunteering opportunity that fits their requirements. The web site connects dental volunteers with volunteering organizations, so that volunteers can use their time searching for opportunities more efficiently versus having to search through millions of web sites to find the right opportunity. Through this undertaking it became known that there is no shortage of dental volunteers and definitely no shortage of patients who could use dental treatment. Now, there will be no shortage of dental volunteering activity.
DentalVolunteer is currently a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization in the United States and will subsequently assume a NGO status internationally and politically.

Founder and President
Neilesh (Neil) Patel is Founder of DentalVolunteer. Mr. Patel has almost 8 years of experience in managing charitable organizations and over 10 years of experience in the medical device, public health and hi-tech. industry. Mr. Patel received his B.S. in Biomedical Engineering and Minor in Entrepreneurship and Management from the Johns Hopkins University. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the UCLA School of Dentistry.
